Research

The electrochemical reduction of CO₂ with electricity from renewable sources is a promising way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while producing useful chemical energy carriers. Copper electrode materials are of particular interest as they have the unique ability to reduce CO₂ to hydrocarbons such as methane, ethane and ethanol. My main focus is on the experimental characterisation of the CO₂ Reduction Reaction in organic electrolytes on copper based electrocatalysts. The performed measurements will be used to identify reaction products and to characterise the reaction mechanisms regarding selectivity and efficiency.
