The International Research Organization for Advanced Science & Technology (IROAST) at Kumamoto University in Japan has appointed Professor Martin Dienwiebel (IAM-CMS) as a visiting professor.
Award of the Faculty Teaching Prize 2017 Apl. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kay André Weidenmann (IAM-WK) and Dr. rer. nat. Joachim Binder (IAM-KWT) were awarded the Fritz Weidenhammer Prize of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering during the KIT Annual Celebration for their outstanding work in teaching, especially the lecture "Materials Process Technology". New method for the detection of boundary layer states Prof. Volker Schulze (IAM-WK) coordinates the DFG priority program "Surface Conditioning in Machining Processes". Anna-Maria Jung won the first place of the Studienaward of the company Dörrenberg Edelstahl. The mechanical engineering student convinced with the written elaboration of her bachelor thesis prepared at the IAM-WK and her presentation entitled "Investigations on the influence of external stresses on the tempering behavior of martensitic 42CrMo4".

Britta Nestler receives the Leibniz Prize Prof. Dr. Britta Nestler (IAM-CMS) was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG) for her contribution to computational materials research. New X-ray Microscope at the MZE in Operation A new large-scale device has been put into operation at the KIT Materials Science Center (MZE). With the Zeiss Xradia 520 Versa, the participating institutes IAM-ET, IAM-KWT, and MVM-VM now have a high-resolution X-ray microscope of the latest generation at their disposal for the non-destructive analysis of porous materials.
Opening of the Materials Science Center The Materials Science Center (MZE) brings together 150 researchers from chemistry, physics, materials science, electrical engineering, and process engineering under one roof. Sparkassen Environmental Prize 2015 For his dissertation "Synthesis and characterization of lithium metal fluorides as positive electrode materials for lithium ion batteries", Dr.-Ing. Höfler PhD Award for Kathrin Krannich. Dr.-Ing. Kathrin Krannich (IAM-AWP) was awarded the "Dr.-Ing-Willy-Höfler-Doktorandenpreis 2015" for the best dissertation of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with manufacturing, measurement or control engineering objectives. The award ceremony took place at the KIT Mechanical Engineering Day by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Jörg Bauer. The prize is endowed with 4,000 €.
Thomas Hupfer receives poster prize The 1st prize at the poster competition of the 12th International Symposium on Systems with Fast Ionic Transport (ISSFIT-12, Kaunas, Lithuania) was awarded to Mr. Thomas Hupfer (IAM-KWT) for the poster "Li+ diffusion in LATP solid ionic conductors studied by neutron diffraction".
ITK Student Award for Leonie Tatzel During the IAM-ET Institute Seminar at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Leonie Tatzel, Master student of the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology program, was awarded the ITK Student Award.
Christian Friedrich Schönbein Award for Sebastian Dierickx The Christian Friedrich Schönbein Medal in silver was awarded to M. Sc. Sebastian Dierickx (IAM-ET) during the "European SOFC & SOE Forum 2016" in Lucerne. His scientific contribution "Electrochemical Analysis of Sulfur Poisoning in Ni/8YSZ Cermet Anodes" was awarded.

Katrin Schulz selected for funding in Wrangell habilitation program Dr. Katrin Schulz (IAM-CMS) was selected for the Margarete von Wrangell habilitation program. Through this program, the state of Baden-Württemberg supports outstanding female researchers on their way to a professorship. Ellen Ivers-Tiffée appointed Fellow of the University of Tokyo

Ellen Ivers-Tiffée (IAM-ET) has been appointed Fellow of the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo in recognition of her scientific achievements in the field of functional ceramics of high-temperature fuel cells (SOFC) and lithium-ion batteries and in view of her long-standing fruitful collaboration with the School of Engineering in research and scientific education.
