IAM contributions to the 2025 Open Day

Fascinating experiments and interactive workshops from materials research
The IAM is taking the unique opportunity to present itself with exciting contributions and activities at this year's Open Day on May 17, 2025, the year of its 200th anniversary. The different parts of the IAM will participate with fascinating experiments and interactive workshops to show visitors how versatile, relevant and exciting materials research is.
- The IAM-ESS will be located at the CELEST stand. There, visitors can experience materials research in battery development for themselves during a hands-on cell construction activity.
- The IAM-WK is organizing a "fitness training for metals" and will explain how metals can be made stronger. Starting at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in buildings 10.91 and 10.96. In contrast, there will be a demonstration of why hydrogen can make life difficult for some metals and make them brittle: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., building 10.96.
- The IAM-ZM can be found at a hands-on and information stand on the subject of "Materials Science and Engineering" between buildings 30.49 (µTC) and 30.48 (MZE). There you can experience mechanical experiments, tribometers and marking lasers in action.
- The IAM-MMI presents the lecture "Die Körpersprache der Bäume" by Prof. Dr. Claus Mattheck from 14:00-14:45 in the Engler-Bunte lecture hall in building 40.50 (only in German).
