The research at the IAM-ESS takes place in different research groups covering different aspects of battery research. These range from the synthesis of new battery materials to the methodological breakdown of the underlying chemical, electrochemical and physical processes and the processing of the materials into electrodes and finished cells on production-related equipment.

The institute also cooperates in various projects with other institutes and research facilities.
