Job description

The Institute for Applied Materials – Mechanics of Materials and Interfaces (IAM-MMI) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) strives for a fundamental understanding, prediction and optimization of mechanisms responsible for the degradation of advanced structural and functional material systems. Our materials research portfolio comprises, among others, materials required for the energy transition, i.e. for energy conversion and storage as well as advanced structural materials. The tasks in this new position will comprise:

  • Development of deformation setup for dislocation engineering in ceramics
  • Characterization of the dislocation structure by electron microscopy methods
  • Evaluation of the dislocation-tuned mechanical and functional properties
  • Scientific papers writing and attending (inter)national conferences
  • Organization of scientific events like seminars, lab visits and summer schools

Co-supervision of PhD/Master-/Bachelor students, access to teaching-relevant activities, and developing your own research project proposals within the scope of dislocations in ceramics are possible.

Personal qualification

  • You should hold a PhD degree in materials science / mechanics / physics
  • Experiences in materials characterization, (nano-/micro)mechanics, ceramic materials synthesis, and electron microscopy are highly desired.

Salary

Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
