Research Topics

Process-structure-property relationships in systems with reduced dimensions or systems with many defects (e.g. in metal-hydrogen M-H systems). In addition to the possibility of studying the basics of physical and material science effects, M-H systems offer the potential for application as energy storage of the future.

  • Thermodynamics and kinetics of nano-scale materials (nano-particles, percolating layers, films and multi-layers as well as different defect-rich materials)
  • Mechanical stress impact and "finite-size"-effects
  • Embrittlement of structural materials
  • Specific properties of nano-crystalline materials, amorphous metals and materials under internal mechanical stress
